the rabbit year and you

Several times this week, I have attempted to write this article on the subject of the rabbit year, but each time, like the rabbit itself, it has slipped from my grasp.

So I thought I'd start out with a few key characteristics of the rabbit in Chinese lunar astrology. Let's begin with the most favorable: the rabbit is lucky.

But will you be lucky in the rabbit year?

Perhaps. As I look back on my experiences of previous years, I am beginning to think that whether or not one has a favorable year has less to do with one's own lunar astrological affiliation—and whether it is “friendly” with the sign of the year—and more to do with how well one gets with the program of any particular year.

So, back to those characteristics of the rabbit. Besides being lucky, the rabbit is intuitive, a bit timid, concerned with status and beauty, home-loving, somewhat traditional. The rabbit can be social, but also cliquish. The rabbit likes good company and enjoys the occasional indulgence.

If you are in the business of beauty or if you're selling something luxurious or even decadent, perhaps the tide is about to turn in your favor again after a couple of leaner years. People will have a harder time resisting all manner of pleasures in the sensual rabbit year.

However, tried and true investments will be better for most than speculation. If you want high-risk, wait until next year, that's the dragon's domain. The real estate market could improve quite a bit.

Lovers will, for the most part, be more inclined to settle down than in the previous year of the fickle tiger. Just make sure you're not settling for less than what you truly want.

While the rabbit is more skittish than the dynamic, sociable tiger, this particular year's element is metal, which makes for good conversation and mental stimulation, you just may have to push yourself a bit more to get out of the comfort zone.

The metal element also favors mental pursuits such as going back to school or getting further training or certification. It will be almost impossible to make the wrong choice in this area this year, especially if you combine intuition with research.

Want more rabbit luck? Try this nifty Feng Shui tip. Pick up a statuette of your Chinese animal sign as well as one of the current year's sign, the rabbit. Put these animals side by side anywhere in your home as long as they're both facing east.
