becoming what is required
The other night, my friend Lara gave me some travel advice. She said "become the person the trip requires you to become."
And already I find that the trip I am planning to Kenya in December has begun to require me to start becoming someone different than who I have been thus far.
Her advice reminded me of something I say to clients who have taken my Creating Abundance Class or have had an Attraction Plan Session with me: The goal is not so much to get the thing you want, but to become the person who would attract it.
Because once you become that, you will continue to attract it, whether it's love, money, career success, world travel--or all of the above.
For me, becoming the next new, improved version of myself is almost always about getting out of my comfort zone. Incidentally, this is a quality that is highly necessary in international travel. It’s also a quality that comes in handy when you attempt to do a job that pays more than you’ve ever been paid, or a position that gives you more fulfillment.
I used to have a coach who would say “Your comfort zone is your money zone.” It’s also your love zone and your success zone.
Similarly, if you want to attract a relationship that is better than any relationship you’ve ever had, you’ve got to become the kind of person who would attract that. The question is: in how many ways are you going to become better than you’ve ever been?
Any worthwhile intention will ask you the same question. Think about it. Having a bigger life requires more of you. It requires you to grow into a ‘bigger’ person before the goods are delivered.
I know people—well, not so many anymore—who are irritated to no end at this Law of Attraction fact. This is probably due to the fact that many of us learned the opposite way growing up: Be a big enough whiner and you’ll usually get what you want. Well, our frazzled mothers might have succumbed to this method, but the universe doesn’t operate this way.
I was very challenged by the prospect of putting together my Safari Party as a fundraising event, although I was not directly asking for money from people. I have also been challenged with the idea of getting a part-time job, since I have been completely self-employed for six years.
But it seems that the trip is requiring me to show that I will do what it takes to make this particular dream happen.
Frequently, I tell clients that if you have the willingness to go to the end of the line for your vision, you may not have to. Or if you start your trip to the end of the line for your vision, there may be something that comes up along the journey that helps you get what you want sooner or in a more satisfying manner than you expected. Or if you do go to the end of the line for your vision, there will always be something at the end of the line that made the getting there fabulous.
